VR Photography Submission Rules

VR photography presents unique technical and ethical considerations that differ from traditional photography. All submissions to the VR Photography Club must be original 360° or immersive photographic content captured by the submitting member. We accept equirectangular projections in JPEG or PNG format with recommended resolutions of at least 6000x3000 pixels for optimal VR viewing. Files should not exceed 20MB for standard submissions. Because VR photography captures entire environments, special attention must be paid to the nadir (bottom) and zenith (top) areas where tripods and photographers often appear; proper editing to remove these artifacts is expected. All submissions must include appropriate metadata including capture equipment used, software for stitching and editing, and whether the image is monoscopic or stereoscopic 3D.

Ethical considerations in VR photography are particularly important due to the immersive nature of the medium. Photographers must ensure they have permission to capture in private spaces and should be mindful of capturing identifiable individuals without consent, as VR images reveal much more environmental context than traditional photos. We prohibit submissions that invade privacy, contain explicit content, or misrepresent locations through excessive digital manipulation. While basic editing like color correction, exposure adjustment, and stitching artifact removal is acceptable, we discourage composites that create false environments unless submitted in the "Creative VR" category. Members are expected to provide constructive feedback focused on immersion quality, technical execution, and storytelling effectiveness. The club reserves the right to feature submitted images in promotional materials with proper attribution to the photographer.
